Great Western Railway

The Great Western Railway was formed in 1833 to provide a line between London and Bristol. The company prospered and went on to create a network of lines throughout South West England, the West Midlands and South Wales. The GWR was granted powers to operate shipping services in 1871. Services to France and the Channel Islands were run from Weymouth.
